MITC Men, Women, Mixed Doubles and Singles Tournament Rules

(Please play your matches since you signed up to do so. As a courtesy, return calls or emails.)

Regular Season Round Robin Requirements/Scoring:

1.       Season: Tournament schedule

  • Fall Tournament - Oct 15th – Nov 30th: With finals the following weekend
  • Winter Tournament - Jan 15th - Feb. 28th: With finals the following weekend
  • Spring Tournanment - Mar 15h - April 30th: With finals the following weekend
  • If possible, there will be two brackets. If there is not enough teams/players to form multiple brackets, then one bracket of 5 teams/players will be formed.

2.       Match format: Round robin format consisting of five teams in each group. If there is multiple brackets within a division, the winners from each bracket will play in the final match at the end of the season.

3.       Scoring: Each match will be based on a 13 game pro set with a 7 point tie breaker at 12-12, first team to 13 wins. However, the scoring of each game will use deuce scoring. A teams/players tournament score will be based on their win record. A perfect score would be 52 points.

4.       Resolving Tied Final Tournament Scores thus Position: Imagine team #1 and team #2 are tied with the same number of points. The match score from their head-to-head match will be determined.

5.       Default Policy: We have had problems in past years with participants not returning calls and not being communicative regarding scheduling matches. Please commit to playing your matches and making yourselves available to play. A DEFAULT POLICY should not be necessary. However, If a team/player can document that they have made repeated attempts to contact their opponent(s) via email and/or phone at lease THREE times over a 3-week period of time, with at least a two week interval in between attempts – ALL to no avail – and shares the documentation (copy of email or phone log with date message was left) w/ Glen DiPalma, then the team/player will be withdrawan from the tournament and all the previous match points will be removed from the final standings.

6.       Doubles Substitutes: Substitutes are permitted, and even encouraged, in the event of injury, temporary travel, permanent relocation, etc. The sub must be a MITC club member for the match to count. We want to promote play and fun, rather than defaults or not playing matches due to unintended situations. The substitute play must be at the same or lesser playing ability than that of the person can not play.

7.       Schedule of Play: If it is possible, round robin groups will consist of 5 teams. The round robin tournament is 6 weeks long with gives each team 2 bye weeks as a buffer to get all their matches in. It is strongly recommended to play at least one match every other week, if possible. 4 matches MUST be played end of the tournaments in order to qualified for the finals. If you find you have all your matches in and would like to play other teams from the other groups, please feel free. However, please make it a priority to play those in your round robin first.

8.       Recording Scores: After each match, please document the results on the club website within 48 hours of your match. The team that won is responsible for recording the score.

9.   Switching Ends: On odd games, teams/players must switch ends

10. Scheduing Match Play: Once the tournament begins, each team/player is responsible for organizing match times with their opponents directly. The only matches that will be scheduled by the Event Director is for the Finals. You can only schedule a match with those in your division / bracket.

End of Season Playoff Tournaments:

  1. Once the round robin tournament is over, the winners of each bracket will play in the finals at the Pot Luck Tournament in early December.
  1. Each team/player must play at least 4 matches in order to qualify for the end-of-season tournament.

3.       If we are playing a multiple round robin brackets, the winners of each round robin bracket will play each other in the finals. If only one large bracket was formed, then the 1st and 2nd place teams will play in the finals at the Pot Luck Tournament Dinner.

4.       If it turns out that for some reason one of the final team can not make the finals on December 5th, the next qualifying team will take their spot.

Team Tennis Guidelines

Teams formed in accordance with USTA rules will be supported and encouraged by MITC. The use of courts for practice and matches will be subject to the following guidelines:

  1. Teams shall be comprised of MITC members. If a non-member is needed to fill a vacancy on any team, this non-member is restricted to our guest rule, which is 3 times per month. Guest fees must be paid.
  2. Requests for court time must be presented to the appropriate Board member, in writing by email or fax, at least five days prior to the scheduled match, so that he/she can reserve the requested time with the answering service.
  3. Only 2 courts can be used during any one time slot, so that the third court is available for other members to use.
  4. The Captain of the team (or designee) is responsible for signing in the member players, so that the visiting team guest can be appropriately charged. Failure to sign in will result in a fine for each court reserved, billed to the Captain.
  5. The "Club Rep" who represents our club in the NH Women's Indoor Tennis League, will also be the liason between the Board of Directors and the team captains.
  6. The Team Coordinator will post the team's schedule for both matches and practice on main bulletin board in the entryway each month. Changes in schedule due to weather, or other unexpected circumstance, will be noted on posted schedule. The Team Captain, in the event of bad weather or other unexpected circumstances, must call the answering service to make cancellations or scheduled matches/practices
